FAQs
What is On Your Face?
On Your Face is a social enterprise bringing the queer creatives of Wales to the forefront. Through the creation of a directory of LGBTQ+ creatives of Wales (onyourfacecollective.org), queer content and spaces, we showcase the work of LGBTQ+ musicians, designers, writers, artists and photographers of Wales.
Most importantly we want to create opportunities and jobs by and for the queer creatives of the area and bring the queer community together.
If you are a queer artist, illustrator, photographer, writer, singer, musician, filmmaker or a creative in any way and want to have your work showcased, please get in touch and register.
Who can apply?
Any person who identifies as an LGBTQ+ creative based in Wales or from Wales.
We accept applications from artists, designers, photographers, poets, writers, film-makers, animators, bands, musicians and multidisciplinary artists.
You can be an established or emerging artist, or a student.
What happens if my practice is not fully developed yet? Can I still register?
We welcome applications from artists from any developmental stage and we want to create and connect with as many creatives as possible.
Whilst you might not feel ready to be registered as a creative or think your practice is not there yet, there will be plenty of opportunities to connect with other creatives and develop your practice.
We are working on creating a mentorship to support artists who are in the early stages of their practice. Through the mentorship we will pair you up with one of the artists from On Your Face to have 1 to 1 and group discussions.
Are there any requirements?
The only thing we ask from creatives is that they have a professional website or Instagram account dedicated to their practice.
How do I apply?
Go to the apply section on our website, download the form, fill it up with your details and send it to us alongside a minimum of 5 images of your work.
What is the structure of OYF like?
On Your Face is a social enterprise and it’s run by its directors, at the moment there are three of us: Africa Olle, Claudia Rubio Sasaki and Alun Davies. We are in the process of registering a fourth director.
We want the team to be inclusive and diverse and we aim to have a representative for each community within the LGBTQ+ umbrella, as well as POC and disabled queer artists.
We also have a membership, which we will be focused on growing over the next few months. The members can join regular meetings if they wish to and will need to be in on specific meetings where big decisions will be taken.
And then there’s the registered creatives, who are at the heart of everything we do and who can take on as much involvement as they wish.
If you are interested in becoming a director or member of OYF we’d love to hear from you!
Why should I register?
By registering with OYF you will join a community of other LGBTQ+ artists and you’ll be invited to participate in events, workshops, panels, talks…
You will benefit from being offered paid job opportunities that will take place in queer safe spaces where you will meet other members of the LGBTQ+ creative community.
If you believe in the power of representation and archive you might want to register to be featured in our directory of all things queer in Wales. We have a directory for creatives, one for queer businesses and one for queer led and queer centred initiatives, collectives and projects.
What to expect as a registered creative?
Once you have sent all your information and images we will create a profile on our website and we will showcase your work on Instagram. You will also be added to our mailing list and will receive work opportunities when they arise. If you want to be in our directory but don’t wish to get information about any opportunities you can also let us know. You can choose how you want to be involved and can inform us of any changes along the way.
How will I be involved?
You can let us know through the form if you’re interested in getting involved with specific tasks.
For instance if you are interested in curating and we are organising an exhibition, we will give you the option to co-curate whenever we can.
What if I want to be more involved?
If you are interested in getting more involved with OYF and would like to help out and gain experience, we always help with social media or marketing. Let us know on the form or drop us an email and we will contact you.
We are also currently looking for directors and members of the board.
